Earl H. Cage, 94

Earl H. Cage, 94, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Lewes, Del., and the Millsboro, Del., area, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012.

Born in Baltimore, Md., he was a retired painter.

Cage was preceded in death by his parents, Clemith S. and Ida May Baker Cage, and his wife, Elizabeth W. Cage, in 1999. He is survived by a son, Scott E. Cage of Glendale, Ariz., one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were scheduled for Feb. 11, 2012, with arrangements by Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., and the Rev. Bob Hudson officiating. Interment was to be at Millsboro Cemetery.

Clayton A. Davidson, 79

Clayton A. Davidson, 79, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md.

Davidson retired from the broiler business in 2005. He was a member of Frankford United Methodist Church and served in the Delaware National Guard.

Davidson is survived by his wife, Janet; son, Gordon; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street in Frankford, Del., where friends may call after noon. Nedra Kay Knepper Dibeler, 62

Nedra Kay Knepper Dibeler, 62, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, after fighting aplastic anemia and complications for more than five months.

Born May 14, 1949, in Hattiesburg, Miss., Dibeler graduated from Texas Christian University and served three years in the U.S. Navy in the Arlington, Va., area, where she met and married Vernon H. Dibeler II. They retired to Bethany Beach, Del., after living in Vienna, Va., for 30 years.

Dibeler was a homemaker, Brownie Girl Scout leader and part-time media specialist and librarian assistant in the Fairfax County, Va., school system. She was an avid reader, well-versed in fiction and nonfiction. She was adept at cross-stitch and needlepoint, and many of her pieces hang in many homes. She was a lover of dogs and music, inspired by her parents, who were both musicians. She was remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Dibeler is survived by her husband of 37 years, Vernon; a daughter, Colleen Scout and her husband, Matthew; a son, Reed Dibeler and his wife, Kelly Rossi; grandchildren Emmett and Amber; brothers Dennis Knepper and his wife, Susan, and Scott Knepper and his wife, Cheryl; and her father-in-law, Vernon Dibeler Sr.

A celebration of Dibeler’s life was scheduled for Feb. 11, 2012, at Sterling United Methodist Church in Sterling, Va. Interment was to be private, with arrangements by Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Va. Howard Lee Dick, 71

Howard Lee Dick, 71, of Ocean View, Del., formerly of Rockville, Md., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at his home.

Dick was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Bethesda, Md. He was known to enjoy hunting, fishing, sports and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sue Hodgkins Dick; sons Jimmy and Brian; daughters-in-law Jacqueline and Amy; and grandchildren Cade, Carson and Kylie.

A reception was scheduled for Feb. 11, 2012, at Ocean View Presbyterian Church, with visitation at Melson Funeral Services, both in Ocean View, Del.

Ruth U. Gerace, 87

Ruth U. Gerace, 87, of Millsboro, Del., formerly of Pottsville, Pa., passed away Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at the Renaissance Nursing Home in Millsboro.

Born in Pottsville, Gerace was employed as a cafeteria worker with the Catholic schools in Pennsylvania before her retirement.

Gerace was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Ursula (Biltheiser) Eisenhuth, and her husband, Andrew. She is survived by two sons, John and his wife, Drucilla, and Andrew and his wife, Anna Marie; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William E. Ellingsworth, 85

William E. Ellingsworth, 85, of Georgetown, Del., passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.

Born in April 13, 1926, in Millsboro, Del., Ellingsworth retired after 30 years of service as a truck driver and dispatcher at Townsend’s. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church. He was known as a big Jeff Gordon fan, who enjoyed NASCAR and fishing.

Ellingsworth was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Ethel Revel Ellingsworth, and a sister, Ruth, in childhood. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nettie W. Ellingsworth of Georgetown; a son, Gerald L. Ellingsworth of Long Neck, Del.; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved feline friend Lucky.

A funeral service was scheduled for Feb. 12, 2012, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., officiated by the Rev. Carol Svecz, with interment at Millsboro Cemetery. Ronald Jerome Goldstein, 83

Ronald Jerome Goldstein, 83, passed away on his birthday, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, surrounded by his caregivers, just after they sang “Happy Birthday” to him.

Born in 1929 in Baltimore, Md., Goldstein was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, Del. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. His entrepreneurial work included selling Gibson Guitars in California and acting as an agent for C.B. Conn Instrument Company, once writing an invoice for orders for more than $1 million. Goldstein enjoyed computers, sports, European travel, the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens and, most of all, music. He was remembered as a trivia expert on old movies and actors. Goldstein was known as a dynamic, vivacious and dedicated “Type A” person, so quick to respond that his wife called him “Instant Ron.”

Goldstein was preceded in death by his parents, David and Margaret Shapiro Goldstein, and his beloved canine friend, Max. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene M. Goldstein; brother-in-law, William Gerting; cousin, Audrey Morse; nephew, William Williams and his wife, Monica; aunt, Catherine Hudak; and special friends Rodney and Kelly Edwards.

A memorial service and celebration of life were scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street in Millsboro, Del., where friends may visit from noon to 2 p.m. The Rev. Donald C. Schaefer was to officiate. Interment was to be Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. on at the Chapel in Druid Cemetery, in 7900 Park Heights in Baltimore, Md. Goldstein’s cousins, the Rev. Josef Lachmann, 76

Josef Lachmann, 76, of Lewes, Del., passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Del.

Born March 16, 1935, in Ostrzeszow, Poland, Lachmann served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, N.C., and the 97th Arcom Unit in Lewes, Del. He continued his military career in the Delaware Army National Guard, stationed with Dagsboro Unit #262, and he served with the 310 Army Reserve in Seaford, Del. Lachmann worked for the State of Delaware as a bridge-tender and then groundskeeper at St. Peter’s Church in Lewes for more than 30 years. He was known to love the beach, reading, watching the History and Discovery channels and being with his family.

Lachmann was preceded in death by his parents, Johann and Sophie (Kamp) Lachmann. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Hella (Angler) Lachmann of Lewes; three sons, Eric Lachmann and Josef Lachmann Jr. of Lewes and Michael Lachmann and his wife, Thoy, of Germany; two daughters, Janet Deering and her husband, Timothy, of Millsboro, Del., and Tanya Farlow and husband, Leeroy, of Milton, Del.; a grandson, John Deering and his wife, Tiffany, of Woodbridge, Va.; two granddaughters, Ashley Deering and Abigail Farlow; a brother, George Lachmann and his wife, Geisela, of Germany; a sister-in-law, Angela Lachmann, of Angola; many nieces and nephews and their families; and his dog Sheeba and bird Baby.

A graveside service was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way in Millsboro, Del., with arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lewes, Del. Roland V. Lynch Jr., 77

Roland V. Lynch Jr., 77, of Gumboro, Del., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del.

Born July 13, 1934, Lynch retired from the State of Maryland. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He will be sincerely missed by family and friends.

Lynch was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Helen Lynch of Roxana, Del., and his sister, Diana Huntington. He is survived by a daughter, Sheryl and her husband, David Huffman; a son, Michael Lynch; two brothers, Norman and his wife, Mary Grace, and Barry; a sister, Shirley Collins and her husband, George; six grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsey, Lyndsay, David Jr., Jonathan and Natalie; and several nieces and nephews.

Rosemary Molyneux, 84

Rosemary Molyneux, 84, of Georgetown, Del., passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at her residence, with her family by her side.

Molyneux was born Feb. 28, 1927, in Chicago, Ill. She took up residency in Georgetown, Del., in 1971. She worked for Tunnel and Raysor in Georgetown for more than 30 years, serving in various capacities and retiring as a legal assistant. Molyneux was remembered as a great role model, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, the beach, golf, canoeing, camping, traveling, arts and crafts, woodworking and her son-in-law Rick’s cooking.

Molyneux was known as an accomplished seamstress with a green thumb who was the life of a party, a great listener and a confidante. She enjoyed going to the Cheer Center at Delaware Technical and Community College. She was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Georgetown who volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Delaware Hospice and the Blood Bank of Delmarva.

Molyneux was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary (Beauregard) Mattson; her husband, Thomas E. Molyneux, in 1982; a son, Daniel K. Molyneux, in 2010; two brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Molyneux, and her husband, Rick Hoenen, with whom she lived in Lewes, Del.; a son, Michael T. Molyneux of Georgetown; his former wife, Brenda Cook; grandsons Jason Molyneux and his wife, Nicole, and Erin Molyneux and his wife, Trisha; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Kaylee; Sanghak Henderson, former wife of the late Daniel Molyneux; great-granddaughter Nina Soleil Molyneux; three step-grandchildren, Leah Hoenen, Megan Rae Molyneux and Zachary Allen Molyneux; a brother, Matt Mattson, of Chicago, Ill.; and sister, Margie Ranson of Tampa, Fla.

Marilyn Z. Jackson Spataro, 51

Marilyn Z. Jackson Spataro, 51, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of New Castle, Del., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012.

She was born Feb. 28, 1960, in Wilmington, Del., the daughter of the late Norman and Ruth (Burton) Jackson.

Spataro was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Spataro, and brothers, Tommy and Norman Jackson. She is survived by her son, Tony Spataro; fiancé, Victor South; sisters, Melissa Anderson and Marion L. “Lucy” Lowman; and brothers Delvernie and Herman Jackson.

A memorial service was scheduled for Feb. 11, 2012, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del., and interment was to be private.

Jeffrey Alan Neal, 47

Jeffrey Alan Neal, 47, of Selbyville, Del., passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was born in Wilmington, Del., the son of Jean Hendershott Neal of Selbyville and the late John H. Neal.

Besides his mother, Neal is survived by his sister, Melinda Yates; two brothers, Larry Neal and David Neal; his aunt, Mary Ann Schultz; uncle, James Cordwell; numerous cousins, three nieces, one nephew; and his significant friend, Julia.

Elmer ‘Everette’ Street, 83

Elmer “Everette” Street, 83, passed away after a long illness on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.

Born June 20, 1928, in Harbeson, Del., Street received his education at Hollyville School. He was the owner and sole proprietor of the well-known Street’s Welding on Beaver Dam Road. He loved for people to visit so he could talk about Jesus. He was remembered as a friendly person who helped whoever he could and enjoyed playing harmonica at churches for the Lord.

Street was preceded in death by his parents, the late Elmer Street and Edna Sammons Street; stepmother Florine Street; his son, Everette “Ricky” Street; and 11 siblings, Richard, Harold, Benjamin, Robert, Escuss “Tony,” Carlos, Lottie and Curtis Street, Virginia Sammons, Edith Harmon and Vernon Daisey.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Gladys Street, of Lewes, Del.; a daughter, Luciel Benson; a son, Garcia Street; five sisters, Pearl Burks, Margaret “Tillie” Harris, Marion Street, Merle Street, Iahhuzzi, and Ruth Street; 12 brothers; William Daisey and Wildon, Nolan, Newlin, Nathan, Paul, Charles, Carl, Carcia “Jim,” Victor, Ronald and Roy Street; four grandchildren; Heidi Street, Sean Evy, Laytona Benson Moon, Mathew Tucker; five great-grandchildren, Shani, Jessie, Rick, Clifford and Nicolena; and many extended family members and friends.

Ann Whitmore Carter, 91

Ann Whitmore Carter, 91, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at home, in the presence of her family.

Carter was born Aug. 18, 1920, to Burton Canfield and Ruth McMichael Whitmore in Omaha, Neb. She was raised in Valley, Neb., and graduated in 1938 from Marlborough School in Los Angeles, Calif. She enrolled at Connecticut College, arriving New London, Conn., just days before the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, which ripped the front porch off her dormitory. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history in 1942. In Connecticut, she and 12 young women called themselves “the Group,” and remained lifelong friends.

Carter met naval officer and her future husband, William A. Carter, on a blind date, and they married April 12, 1943, at New York City’s famed Little Church Around the Corner. The story of their wartime courtship and romance is told in her late husband’s 2008 World War II memoir, “Why Me, Lord?” After the war, they moved to Dagsboro, Del., and later to Millsboro, where Carter was active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and volunteered for community service organizations, including the Children’s Bureau of Delaware.

She worked with her husband in his life insurance agency, other business interests and state boards and commissions, including his role in founding Delaware Technical and Community College, for which he was an early trustee and board chairman. The Carters were known as a team until his passing in 2010.

In addition to her husband, Carter was preceded in death by her younger sister, Mary Whitmore Wedel; a son, William Whitmore Carter; and a step-grandson, Kai-uve M. Harvey. She is survived by her daughter, Melinda Carter Luedtke and her husband, Laurence, of Amelia Island, Fla.; her son, Richard B. Carter of Millsboro; six grandchildren, Rebecca Carter Villegas, Christopher Carter, Andrew Carter, Lance Luedtke, Matthew Carter and Catherine Carter; two step-grandchildren, Samuel and Annie Laurie Harvey; and two great-grandchildren, Samuel and Raquel Villegas. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Ann, Frank, Patricia, Valerie, Eric and their families.

Carter’s family thanked her beloved caregivers, Reesena and Carolyn Jones, Lillian Taylor, Charlotte Williams and Cynthia Hulbert for their sensitive and loving care and friendship, and her many devoted doctors and nurses at the office of Dr. Nancy Squires, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center, at Delaware Hospice and elsewhere.

A funeral service was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. at Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher Street in Frankford, Del., where friends and family may call after 12:30 p.m. Interment was to follow at Prince George’s Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to the Carter’s Grove Fund, planting memorial trees for Carter’s husband, Bill, and other veterans on the grounds of the Carter Partnership Center at Del Tech Owens Campus, or to the William A. Frank William DiTolvo, 63

Frank William DiTolvo, 63, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, surrounded by his family, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

DiTolvo was born Feb. 19, 1948, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. He grew up in New Jersey and served in the U.S. Army for three years, including a year in Vietnam. He worked as meat department manager for ShopRite for many years before moving to Millsboro in 1985. He was also employed by Melvin Joseph Construction Company for 13 years. DiTolvo was a member of Amalgamated Meat Cutters Union, VFW Post 7422, American Legion Post 28 and Indian River Senior Center. His loves included being a prankster, repairing and gallivanting in classic cars, animals, music, movies, fishing, hunting and his family.

DiTolvo was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emma M. (Keller) DiTolvo, and an infant son, Kevin M. DiTolvo. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane J. DiTolvo of Millsboro; two daughters, Laura A. Kucharik and her husband, Thomas, of Georgetown, and Christine R. DiTolvo of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Carol A. Migliore of Somerset, N.J.; a brother, Richard A. DiTolvo and his wife, Debra, of Millsboro; three grandchildren, William, Anna and Elena Kucharik of Georgetown; and many extended family members and friends.

In accordance with DiTolvo’s wishes, a casual-dress (e.g., blue jeans) memorial service was scheduled for Friday, March 9, 2012, at noon at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street in Millsboro, Del., where friends may call after 11 a.m. A ceremony with military honors will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro. Donald L. ‘Donnie’ Donaway Sr., 68

Donald L. “Donnie” Donaway Sr., 68, of Frankford, Del., passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at his residence.

Born in Wicomico County, Md., Donaway had been a truck driver for many years and was most recently a trolley driver for the Town of Bethany Beach. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach and a Friend of Bill’s.

Donaway is survived by his mother, Leola Donaway Richards of Wilmington; a brother, Bruce Richards and his wife, Cindy, of Hockessin; a sister, Christeen Richards of Wilmington; daughter, Sharon Harris and her husband, Steve; his boys, Michael Doherty and his wife, Jinny, and Daniel Doherty; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Lee Donaway Jr., in 1990, a grandson, Justin Lee Donaway, in 2005 and his soulmate, Ruth Alice Rowles, in 2010.

A mass of Christian burial was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway in Bethany Beach, Del., with the Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. Mae M. Dukes, 101

Mae M. Dukes, 101, of Selbyville, Del., passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, Del.

Dukes was born in Selbyville and was the daughter of the late James B. and Hattie (Hickman) McCabe. She and her husband had owned the former Bunting Auto Supply in Selbyville for many years. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and the Selbyville Women’s Club.

Dukes was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha C. Dukes, in 1969. She is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia Allen Freeman, 86

Virginia Allen Freeman, 86, passed away Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012.

Born Jan. 4, 1926, in Irwin, Tenn., to Wert and Mabel Allen, Freeman grew up a coal miner’s daughter in the Appalachian Mountains with four siblings, Drusilla, Reginald, Linda and Louise. She left Lynch, Ky., to attend Northwestern University and, later, George Washington University. She worked as a secretary for Carl M. Freeman Companies of Montgomery County, Md., eventually marrying real estate developer and company CEO Carl M. Freeman.

At the family farm, Tusculum, in Sunshine, Md., Virginia Freeman wrote, created and collected art and entertained guests. She even wrote two books on their family’s heritage and Jewish roots. Freeman was known as a skilled sculptor, painter and poet who kept a fine garden and loved world travel, especially to her ancestral Scotland.

Freeman was remembered as a warm, welcoming and spiritual person and a driving force behind the establishment of the Carl M. Freeman Foundation in 1960. Through the foundation, the couple contributed to hundreds of philanthropic causes, including the Kennedy Center, Corcoran Gallery, Washington National Opera, Montgomery College, Montgomery General Hospital and Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.

Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, who called her “Ginger,” and her son, Joshua, who thought that she was absolutely perfect.

She leaves behind three step-daughters, Susan Freeman McGee and her husband, Todd, Lisa Freeman and Carla Freeman; step-grandchildren Todd, Ava and Brita McGee, and Naomi, Seth and Ethan VanDinter; a son-in-law, Don Percious, and a daughter-in-law, Michelle DiFebo Freeman; grandchildren Nicholas, Benjamin and Juliana Freeman; a sister, Louise, and a brother-in-law, Charles Gambill; and many extended friends and family members. The family extended gratitude and thanks to the caregivers during her final years.

Edward ‘Ed’ S. Kuntz, 97

Edward “Ed” S. Kuntz, 97, of Lewes, Del., formerly of Nokomis, Fla., passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, with his family by his side.

Born June 16, 1914, in New York City, Kuntz was a member of the Bakery Drivers and Salesman Local 194, Brotherhood of Teamsters Union for many years. He was raised in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City and enjoyed telling stories of watching the Empire State Building and the Holland Tunnel being constructed. He cheered for all New York sports teams, especially the Giants and the Mets. He was known as a tinkerer at heart who worked on automobiles, crafts and woodworking. He enjoyed traveling with his wife in their RV, visiting every state in the union twice. Kuntz was a member of the Henlopen Elks and Moose Lodge #2540 and an honorary member of the American Legion Post #17.

Kuntz was preceded in death by his parents, William Kuntz and Sadie Scriven Kuntz; his first wife, Lorraine Then Kuntz, in 1947; and his second wife, of 53 years, Frances Miller Kuntz, in 2002. He is survived by two daughters, Marianne Furman and her husband, William, and Lorraine Cintron and her husband, Jose, all of Milton; six grandchildren, William Furman Jr. of Boston, Mass., Michael Furman and his wife, Coleen, of Dagsboro, Del., Candee Marie Cintron and her husband, Nicholas Maxymuik, of Philadelphia, Pa., Scott Furman and his wife, Stacie, of Lewes, Del., Leigh Ann Zerden of Townsend, Del., and Joseph Todd Cintron of Los Angeles, Calif.; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was to be announced at a later date, with information provided on the Web site for Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lewes, Del.
