Outstanding Indian -- Ben Boonin
Sophomore Ben Boonin swam a 1:02.14 in the 100-meter butterfly during Indian River’s win over Seaford on Wednesday, Jan. 18. The showing earned Boonin a state cut-qualifying time and propelled the Indians to their fifth win of the season as they defeated the Blue Jays, 98-66.

“Ben has been such a crucial athlete to this team,” said Indian River head coach Colin Crandell. “He’s that guy who, if I didn’t have him, we wouldn’t be winning these meets. He’s an unsung hero because, although he’s quiet, he has developed so much confidence in himself.” In his last three meets, Boonin has managed to shed nearly 5 seconds off of his 100-meter butterfly time. “It’s nice to have talent in some of our other younger guys,” said Crandell, “but without Ben, we wouldn’t have the success we’re seeing.”
