Josef Lachmann, 76

Josef Lachmann, 76, of Lewes, Del., passed away peacefully Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Del.

Born March 16, 1935, in Ostrzeszow, Poland, Lachmann served in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne at Ft. Bragg, N.C., and the 97th Arcom Unit in Lewes, Del. He continued his military career in the Delaware Army National Guard, stationed with Dagsboro Unit #262, and he served with the 310 Army Reserve in Seaford, Del. Lachmann worked for the State of Delaware as a bridge-tender and then groundskeeper at St. Peter’s Church in Lewes for more than 30 years. He was known to love the beach, reading, watching the History and Discovery channels and being with his family.

Lachmann was preceded in death by his parents, Johann and Sophie (Kamp) Lachmann. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Hella (Angler) Lachmann of Lewes; three sons, Eric Lachmann and Josef Lachmann Jr. of Lewes and Michael Lachmann and his wife, Thoy, of Germany; two daughters, Janet Deering and her husband, Timothy, of Millsboro, Del., and Tanya Farlow and husband, Leeroy, of Milton, Del.; a grandson, John Deering and his wife, Tiffany, of Woodbridge, Va.; two granddaughters, Ashley Deering and Abigail Farlow; a brother, George Lachmann and his wife, Geisela, of Germany; a sister-in-law, Angela Lachmann, of Angola; many nieces and nephews and their families; and his dog Sheeba and bird Baby.

A graveside service was scheduled for Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way in Millsboro, Del., with arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lewes, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions may to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; 501 St. Jude Place; Memphis, TN 38105.
