BOWERS BEACH (May 18, 2012) - DNREC and Bowers Beach will celebrate the town's new Main Street Park Saturday, the park's opening a testimony to successfully putting a flood-damaged piece of private property back on the map as an outdoors recreation community asset. Main Street Park was created through a unique collaboration of the Town of Bowers Beach, DNREC and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Delaware to Open Black Sea Bass Recreational Season at 12:01 A.M. Saturday, May 19
DOVER (May 18, 2012) - Delaware will open its black sea bass season at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, May 19 by an emergency regulation issued by DNREC Secretary Collin O'Mara. Delaware's opening comes after the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) released its recreational black sea bass regulation today, declaring without advance notice that the recreational black sea bass season would open in federal waters on the aforementioned time and date.

Commissioner Stewart Announces Delaware Will Receive Over $1 Million From MetLife Settlement Agreement
Multi-State Investigation Leads to Changes in How Company Handles Unclaimed Life Insurance Benefits - Commissioner Stewart stated today that, "This settlement was a victory for policyholders and we are glad that MetLife will honor their promise to individuals that paid premiums, and provide resolution to beneficiaries." The Delaware Department of Insurance joined 27 other state insurance departments in a settlement agreement with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, surpassing the number of participating jurisdictions required for the agreement to become effective. The agreement follows a multi-state investigation coordinated through the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).
Changes to the King Street Bus Stop at Rodney Square
Wilmington -- Changes to the King Street Bus Stop are due to the Landscape Improvement Project on Rodney Square. DART is shifting its King Street bus stop to either King Street just north of 11th Street at the former U.S. Post Office; on King Street just south of 10th Street at the Library; or on King Street at 9th Street, depending on the route.

Wilmington -- DART First State will begin its 2012 Resort Transit bus service on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Resort Transit, operating 7 bus routes, 7 days a week from 7 AM to 1 AM, serves Rehoboth Beach and the Boardwalk, Lewes, Long Neck, Dewey Beach, Ruddertowne, Bethany Beach, South Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Ocean City, MD. With Beachnester Bird Breeding Season Off to an Uneven Start, Four Piping Plover Nests Confirmed on The Point At Cape Henlopen
LEWES (May 15, 2012) - Unseasonably warm weather in March and a wet, windy and cooler April made for an uneven start to beachnester bird breeding season. However, in May, piping plovers have gotten down to the business of nesting, with four nests spotted this week on the Point at Cape Henlopen, and a fifth pair possibly soon to nest. Things are progressing more slowly down at Gordons Pond, where one pair of plovers has been seen but has not yet set up territory.
